Join the DMC mailing list to receive the latest news on The Darryl Makes Comics Fine Art collection and shows
Darryl McDaniels is best known as the co-founding member of “Run DMC”, considered one of the major pioneers of hip-hop culture, and arguably, THE hottest rap act of the 1980s and 1990s, still loved today by millions around the world.
Today, Darryl McDaniels owns “Darryl Makes Comics”, an Independent Publishing House, borne out of his love and deep passion for comics growing up. They have always played a huge part in DMC’s life, in fact, many of the stories and speeches made by his favourite comic characters, are the inspiration for his lyrics later created for Run DMC.
"When Run came to me the first time and said 'Yo, we're putting you in the group,' I was a nervous little nerdy kid," DMC said. "I didn't want to get up in front of y'all and rhyme but then what gave me confidence, out there on stage was pretending that I was the Hulk on the microphone.”
Featuring some of the hottest talent in comics and illustration today, a cool 80’s vibe and authentic street art by known artists, the scene is set for 1985.
In this 1985, Darryl McDaniels (Run DMC) never rocks the mic to become one of hip-hop's most enduring icons. Instead, he dons his tracksuit and Adidas sneakers to defends the city's marginalized citizens against super villain and super hero alike, leaving no traces besides the imprint of his knuckle rings on his opponents' faces. (By day, though, he teaches junior high school English.)
DMC, the inaugural title from Darryl Makes Comics, imagines an alternate history that blends traditional comic book storytelling with the pressures and anxieties of 1980's NYC, and explores how we got to where we are now. DMC is a superhero for those who need one most.
SKYE Art Gallery is thrilled to represent the Art of Darryl Makes Comics. A Collection of Iconic Editions featured in the now Sold Out Comics Issues #1 and #2.
For those in the know, you will delight in the tributes to DMC’s favourite comics growing up, featuring, Batman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, and even Akira. For those that aren’t, you’ll gasp at the impact on the wall, the accessibility of the genre, and the fact that this was all created by a Hip Hop Legend millions grew up with.
Each Fine Art Edition is hand signed by Darryl “DMC” McDaniels in Gold and released in a strictly limited edition of just 50 pieces worldwide. The celebrated ‘Cover” Editions feature a slightly larger edition size.
